Growth Scans
What are fetal growth scans?
Fetal growth scans are performed in the third trimester of pregnancy to monitor the growth and development of the baby. They assess fetal parameters such as fetal presentation, placental localisation, head circumference, abdominal circumference, amniotic fluid levels, femur length, fetal heart rate, estimated fetal weight and occasionally blood flow in the middle cerebral artery (a blood vessel in the brain) and umbilical artery.

Why do you need fetal growth scans?
Growth scans are particularly important in cases of high-risk pregnancies, such as those with maternal medical conditions, fetal growth restriction, or suspected abnormal growth patterns. They help identify any deviations from the expected growth trajectory and ensure appropriate management and intervention.
